Greetings! As we start off on 2 or 3 new phases of life, I plan to identify 2 birds each day. Living in South Western Ontario, there are limited #'s of birds to see, but I'm going to try to spot 2 each day. Maybe there will be duplicates. But I"m ok with it.
Sunday, August 9th-Off at the beach on Lake Huron. Saw practically tame seagulls-white with grey and black markings on the wings. Also came very close to 2 piping plovers, who would have strolled right in front of us if it hadn't been for the beach-walkers, who inadvertently chased them the other way. Thank you to Ontario Parks email for identifying these 2. I thought they were sandpipers, but the legs were, admittedly, too short for that.
Monday, the 10th-Heard mourning doves, and later saw one on Powerline Road in Brantford. Spotted the ever-present seagulls in the mall parking lot, as a storm threatened to come in. Right off the bat, a duplicate!
Tuesday, Aug 11th-Driving from work, spotted a turkey vulture, with distinctive raggedy wings. Can't miss those, living around here. House Sparrows galore on the powerlines today. Do they get a buzz from sitting there, or is it, as my children opine, that it's a high and mighty spot?
